Front End
NOTE: Do NOT check or perform a front suspension alignment without first making the following inspection for front end damage or wear.1. Check for specified air pressure in all four tires.
2. Raise front of vehicle off floor. Grasping upper and lower surfaces of tire, move each front wheel in and out to check front suspension ball joints and mounts for looseness, wear and damage. Tighten all loose nuts and bolts to specification. Replace all worn parts.
3. Check steering gear mountings and tie rod connections for looseness. Tighten all mountings to specification. If tie rod ends are worn or bent, replace parts.
4. Remove front wheel and tire assemblies. Check wheel and tire assemblies for out-of-round and bent wheels. Balance wheel and tire assemblies on high-speed balancing equipment.
5. Check action of shock absorbers and the condition of their attachment. Refer to Shock Absorber Checks. A sticking or binding shock absorber may not allow the vehicle to settle in a normal, level position, possibly affecting the front wheel alignment.
6. Inspect ball joints.
