This TSB article is being republished in its entirety to correct Figure 9.
ISSUE
Internal transaxie part changes were incorporated into CD4E transaxles built since 1/5/1998. These new parts are not identified in the Workshop Manual literature.
ACTION
This TSB article is being issued only to inform technicians of part changes and how to identify and service new parts. Most of the new part designs will not interchange with the past model part designs. CD4E transaxles built after 1/5/1998 have changes to the forward clutch area.
A special Forward Clutch Return Spring Pilot Tool (Rotunda 134-00129) is required for assembly and disassembly. A main control change was also made and is coordinated with the clutch design. Illustrations are as follows:
^ Figure 1 is the Forward Clutch Return Spring Pilot Tool
^ Figure 2 is the new forward clutch return spring
^ Figure 3 is the new slightly taller coast clutch piston
^ Figure 4 is the new forward clutch outer one-way race. It is 2.0 mm thinner than the old design
^ Figure 5 is the slightly taller forward clutch piston
^ Figure 6 is the thinner coast clutch pressure plate
^ Figure 7 is the new forward clutch wave spring
^ Figure 8 is the new coast/forward-direct clutch cylinder retaining ring
^ Figure 9 shows the new forward/coast/direct cylinder and past cylinders and their identification marks
^ Figure 10 shows the new forward one-way clutch sprag assembly
^ Figure 11 shows the forward clutch end play check and retaining ring and specifications.
