Attachment III - Technical Information
OVERVIEWThis procedure details the installation of inner and outer spring shields on both front strut assemblies. Be aware that one or both front strut springs may be fractured. In the event that a front spring is found to be fractured, refer to 01M08 for instructions.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove both front wheel and tire assemblies.
3. CAUTION:
To avoid damage to the stabilizer bar link boot during removal of the nut:
^ Do not use power/air tools.
^ Do not allow the ball stud to rotate (use the hex portion of the stud to prevent it from rotating).
USING HAND TOOLS, remove the nut securing the stabilizer bar link to the strut assembly, but do not disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the strut assembly.
4. Remove the brake hose from the bracket, then remove the brake hose bracket from the strut assembly. The bracket is being trimmed in the following step.
5. Remove the portion of the brake hose bracket shown. See Figure 1.
6. Position the outer half of the spring shield onto the strut assembly with the mounting tabs in front of the strut mounting brackets. See Figure 2.
7. Install the brake hose bracket, from the inside, through the spring shield mounting tab and strut mounting bracket. Make sure the brake hose bracket is flush with the strut mounting bracket and that it does not contact the outer half of the spring shield when installed. See Figure 3. Tighten the supplied nut to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft). Install the brake hose onto the brake hose bracket.
8. Install the supplied nut onto the stabilizer bar link and tighten the nut to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
9. Position the inner half of the spring shield onto the outer half, install the supplied nuts and bolts with the bolts pointing upward. Tighten the nuts and bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). See Figure 4.
10. Trim the wheel well splash shield so it is flush with the inside of the strut tower. See Figure 5.
11. Repeat the procedure for the other front strut assembly.
12. Install both front wheel and tire assemblies. Tighten the lug nuts to 130 Nm (96 lb-ft).
13. Lower the vehicle.
