Compressor

When A/C compressor is inoperative due to internal causes, clean the refrigerant system by flushing or filtering to remove any debris or contaminants and prevent damage to the replacement A/C compressor.

Replacement of the suction accumulator/drier is necessary when the A/C compressor is replaced.

The A/C evaporator core orifice should be replaced whenever the A/C compressor is replaced for lack of performance or when there is debris in the system.

REMOVAL
1. Discharge A/C system.
2. Remove battery.
3. Drain cooling system.
4. Disconnect lower radiator hose from radiator.
5. Disconnect lower radiator hose from thermostat housing and position aside.
6. Remove two lower bolts retaining A/C compressor to A/C compressor brackets.
7. Remove upper radiator support.
8. Remove screws retaining LH and RH fan assemblies.
9. Disconnect electrical connectors from fan motors.
10. Disconnect wiring harness from fan motor harness.
11. Remove LH and RH assemblies.
12. Remove four bolts retaining fan shroud brackets to sub-frame.
13. Position fan shroud assembly forward.
14. Disconnect electrical connector from A/C pressure cut-off switch.
15. Disconnect electrical connector from A/C compressor clutch and position harness out of the way.
16. Remove drive belt from A/C compressor.
17. Remove bolt retaining A/C manifold and tube.
18. Remove two upper bolts retaining A/C compressor to A/C compressor bracket and remove A/C compressor. Cap A/C manifold and tube to prevent moisture and dirt from entering system.

INSTALLATION
1. Service the replacement A/C compressor with the correct amount of clean Motorcraft YN-12b refrigerant oil or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.

NOTE: A new service replacement A/C compressor is shipped without compressor oil.

2. Install A/C compressor onto vehicle.
3. Lubricate new O-ring seals with clean refrigerant oil and position them in O-ring seal grooves of A/C manifold and tube.
4. Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to threads of manifold retaining bolt.
5. Position A/C manifold and tube with O-ring seals to A/C compressor. Install retaining bolt and tighten to 17-23 N.m (13-16 Lb-Ft).

NOTE: When replacing an A/C compressor, use original manifold bolt from removed A/C compressor to attach A/C manifold and tube to new A/C compressor. Do not use the shipping cap bolts.

6. Connect A/C clutch wire harness connector.
7. Install the drive belt on the A/C clutch pulley.
8. Install cooling fan motor, fan blade and fan shroud assembly to vehicle.
9. Install lower radiator hose.
10. Install battery.
11. Check system for proper operation.
