Flow of Diagnosis
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the power windows/heated back window to duplicate the condition.2. Inspect the components of the power window system to determine if any of the following mechanical or electrical concerns apply.
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
^ Window alignment.
^ Window mounting (regulator and bracket).
^ Window frame interference.
Electrical
^ Open power distribution box Fuse 4 (30 A) and 7 (40 A).
^ Fuse junction panel Fuse 23 (5 A), 33 (5 A), 12 (5 A) and 32 (5 A).
^ Damage to wiring harness.
^ Loose or corroded connections.
^ Damaged switches.
^ Damaged relays in fuse junction panel.
^ Damaged back window grid wires.
3. If inspection reveals obvious concern that can be readily identified, serviced as required.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 418-F048 (007-00500) or equivalent to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel, turn the ignition switch to RUN and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
a. check that program card is properly installed.
b. check connections to vehicle.
c. check ignition switch position.
If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, review the New Generation Star Tester manual.
5. Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS TEST using the NGS. If the NGS responds with:
a. CKT 70 = ALL MODULE NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, go to Communication System Diagnostics to diagnose network concern.
b. NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Generic Electronic Module (GEM), go to Pinpoint Test B. B: No Communication With Generic Electronic Module
c. If the GEM is not listed for a communication concern execute Self Test Diagnostics for the GEM.
6. If DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index to continue diagnostics. GEM Diagnostic Trouble Code Index
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures to continue diagnostics.
Rotunda Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS(R)) 418-F001 (001-00001) may also be used to diagnose this system.
