Compressor

REMOVAL

CAUTION: To prevent refrigerant system contamination, if you are replacing an A/C compressor which has failed internally, you must perform the following procedures:

1. If the A/C Flusher is available, perform the Flushing procedure. A/C System Flushing
2. If the A/C Flusher is not available, perform the Refrigerant System Filtering After A/C Compressor Replacement procedure. A/C System Filtering
3. Replace the suction accumulator/drier.
4. Replace the A/C evaporator core orifice.
5. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
6. Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery
7. Raise and support the vehicle.







8. Remove the screws and the radiator air deflector.







9. Remove the screws and the RH engine and transmission splash shield.
10. Remove the drive belt.







11. Disconnect the A/C clutch field coil electrical connector.







12. Loosen the A/C manifold and tube retaining bolt and remove the A/C manifold and tube.

CAUTION: Plug all ports to prevent contamination from dirt or moisture.







13. Remove the bolts and remove the A/C compressor.


INSTALLATION












1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
- Service the replacement A/C compressor with the proper amount of PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12b, F2AZ-19577-AC or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
- Lubricate the new A/C manifold O-rings with PAG Compressor Oil Motorcraft YN-12b, F2AZ-19577-AC or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-M1C231-B.
- Apply Pipe Sealant with Teflon(R) D8AZ-19554A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A to the threads of the A/C manifold retaining bolt.
