Fuel Pump: Service and Repair




Fuel Tank Lockring Wrench:






Special Tools Desired

REMOVAL

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.

CAUTION: Fuel supply lines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shut down. This pressure must be relieved before servicing of the fuel system is begun. A valve is provided on the throttle body for this purpose. Remove the air cleaner and relieve system pressure by using Rotunda pressure gauge tool T80L-9974-A or equivalent and drain the system through the drain tube.






1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Service and Repair
2. Perform the fuel pressure release procedure. Service and Repair
3. Remove the rear seat cushion assembly. Service and Repair






4. Disconnect the two fuel delivery module electrical connectors.






5. Remove the four fuel delivery module access cover screws and remove the fuel delivery module access cover.






6. Disconnect the fuel delivery module electrical connector for fuel tank pressure transducer.






7. Remove the fuel line clip and disconnect the fuel line.






8. Use Fuel Tank Locking Wrench to remove the fuel delivery module locking retainer ring.






9. Open the fuel delivery module cover.
1 Remove the retainer ring.
2 Open the cover.






10. Remove the fuel delivery module.
1 Depress the locking tabs.
2 Remove the module.

INSTALLATION






1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16km (10 mi) or more to relearn the strategy.

Install a new fuel pump mounting gasket. Replace the fuel line clips if necessary. Start the engine and check for leaks.
