Installation





1. Use (A) Inner Tie Rod Socket Tool D9OP-3290-A or equivalent and install the (B) front wheel spindle tie rods.





2. Install the front suspension steering ball stud dust seals and clamps.
3. Thread the tie rod end jam nuts onto the front wheel spindle tie rod.
4. Thread the tie rod ends onto the front wheel spindle tie rod. Line up alignment marks.





5. Tighten the tie rod end jam nuts.





6. Remove the (A) steering gear from the (B) steering gear holding fixture.
7. Install the steering gear assembly from the RH side of vehicle.
8. Align the steering column input shaft coupling and the steering gear input shaft.





9. Install the two steering gear mounting brackets and nuts.
10. On vehicles with a manual transaxle, install the gearshift lever stabilizer bar and support.
11. On vehicles with a manual transaxle, install the shift control rod.





12. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the steering gear.

NOTE:
^ Install a new teflon seal 388898-S on the power steering pressure hose fittings before reinstalling the hose.
^ Make sure that the threads are clean and free of debris before connecting the hose.





13. Install the power steering return hose.

NOTE: Make sure that the threads are clean and free of debris before connecting the hose.





14. Install a new strap to secure the power steering hoses to the steering gear housing.





15. Install the crossmember.
16. Position the RH boot shield and install the pushpin.





17. Install the RH splash shield.





18. Install each (A) tie rod end into the (B) front wheel knuckle.





19. Install the tie rod end nut and a new cotter pin.

NOTE: If necessary, tighten (never loosen) the tie rod end nut until the castellations line up with the cotter pin hole.





20. Install the wheel and tire assemblies.
21. Lower the vehicle.





22. Install the steering column input shaft coupling to steering gear input shaft and control bolt.





23. Install the inner steering column tube boot and the steering column tube boot.
1 Position the inner steering column tube boot.
2 Position the steering column tube boot.
3 Install the five bolts.

24. Fill the power steering system.
25. Align the front end to specifications.
