Control Arm: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Raise and support the vehicle.





2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
1 Remove the lug nuts.
2 Remove the wheel and tire assembly.





3. Remove the stabilizer bar link.
1 Remove the front stabilizer bar end nut.
2 Remove the front stab end bolt.
3 Remove the upper front stabilizer bar end retainer.
4 Remove the front stabilizer bar end bushing above the front stabilizer bar. Remove the front stabilizer bar end bushing below the front stabilizer bar.
6 Remove the front stabilizer bar spacer.
7 Remove the front stabilizer bar end bushing above the front sub-frame.
8 Remove the front stabilizer bar end bushing below the front sub-frame.
9 Remove the lower front stabilizer bar end retainer.





4. Remove the front suspension lower ball joint pinch bolt.





5. Separate the front suspension lower ball joint from the front knuckle.





6. Remove the front suspension lower arm pivot bolt.





7. Remove the three front suspension lower arm bolts and remove the lower arm.

INSTALLATION





1. To install, mount suspension lower arm at the front and rear bushings.

NOTE:
^ New fasteners must be used when old fasteners are loosened and/or removed.
^ Do not tighten the bolt in this step.





2. Install the suspension lower arm and the pinch bolt and nut.

NOTE: Apply Threadlock 262 E2FZ-19551B or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G351-A6 to the ball joint nut and pinch bolt threads.





3. Install the front suspension lower arm bolts in the sequence indicated.

NOTE: Use High Lift Trans Jack to raise the suspension lower arm so that it is parallel with the ground.





4. Tighten the front suspension lower arm pivot bolt.





5. Install the stabilizer bar link.
1 Install the lower front stabilizer bar end retainer.
2 Install the stabilizer bar end bushing below the sub-frame.
3 Install the stabilizer bar end bushing above the sub-frame.
4 Install the stabilizer bar spacer.
5 Install the stabilizer bar end bushing below the stabilizer bar.
6 Install the stabilizer bar end bushing above the stabilizer bar.
7 Install the upper stabilizer bar end retainer.
8 Install the stabilizer bar end bolt.
9 Install the stabilizer bar end nut.





6. Tighten the stabilizer bar link nuts so that 17-19 mm (0.67-0.75 inch) of thread is exposed.





7. Install the wheel and tire assembly.
1 Position the tire and wheel assembly.
2 Install the lug nuts and lower the vehicle.
3 Tighten the lug nuts using a torque wrench.
