FORD:

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1997-98 TRACER
ISSUE
A portion of foam tape at the windshield and instrument panel (I/P) may be sticking out on some vehicles. This may be caused by the foam tape adhesive loosening, allowing the tape to creep during high heat and/or high humidity conditions.
ACTION
Cut off all visible accessible tape. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove only the tape that is visible by cutting it away. Tuck any remaining ends between the I/P and windshield.
2. Test drive the vehicle at a speed of 32 km/h (20 mph) over broken pavement or bumps. Listen for possible squeak or rattle at the same I/P windshield area.
3. If a noise occurs, add small pieces of flocked tape supplied in the Squeak And Rattle Repair kit (Rotunda 164-R4903).
4. Test drive the vehicle again to verify that noise is gone.
