ISSUE
Some vehicles may exhibit a windnoise and/or water leak around the B-pillar mouldings. This may be caused by a loose B-pillar moulding and/or improperly adjusted door glass.

ACTION
Reattach the loose B-pillar moulding if necessary and/or adjust the door glass. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
Some vehicles built prior to February 19, 1999, may exhibit looseness of the door weatherstrip at the upper corner of the B-pillar. Replacement of the weatherstrip typically is not effective in resolving this concern, however it can be corrected by attaching the loose area of the weatherstrip to the body with E8AZ-19552-A Ford Weatherstrip Adhesive.

DOOR GLASS ADJUSTMENT TIPS
Refer to the following procedure whenever it is necessary to adjust the door glass for windnoise, water leak, or appearance concerns.

Use of Special Tool(s) 501-S042 Door Glass Blocks is mandatory when adjusting the door glass.

1. Remove the interior door trim panel. Refer to appropriate year Cougar Workshop Manual, Section 501-05 for details.

2. Peel back the watershield.

3. Remove the door weatherstrip starting at the top-center of the window opening by pulling it off down to the door scuff plate.

NOTE
VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO FEBRUARY 19, 1999 USE A SMALL AMOUNT OF ADHESIVE TO SECURE THE WEATHERSTRIP AT THE TOP AND CENTER OF THE B-PILLAR (AT THE WAISTLINE). LATER BUILT VEHICLES USE A LOCATOR PIN. IF A PIN IS DAMAGED DURING REMOVAL, USE FORD E8AZ-19552-A WEATHERSTRIP ADHESIVE IN PLACE OF THE DAMAGED PIN TO ATTACH THE WEATHERSTRIP DURING REASSEMBLY.

4. Remove the drip rail retainer/moulding from the door opening.

5. Loosen the two (2) lower rear guide attachments and set the rear guide to the nominal (center) position. Refer to Figure 1.

a. Loosen the 14 mm and 8 mm nuts.

b. Turn the adjustment screw (# 25 Torx) to center the rear guide lower bracket in the middle of the bracket slot.

6. Connect the power window switch to the wire harness and fully close the window.

7. Install the Special Service Tool 501-S042 Door Glass Blocks.

a. Front spacer (501-043) mounts adjacent to the fifth drip rail retainer/moulding hole (counted from the rear quarter glass).

b. Middle spacer (501-044) mounts adjacent to the second drip rail retainer/moulding hole (counted from the rear quarter glass).

c. Rear spacer (501-045) mounts at the center of the quarter glass.

8. Loosen, but do not remove, the front and rear glass clamp bolts. Refer to Figure 2.

9. Carefully close the door, ensuring the door glass does not move the spacer blocks.

10. Using a standard glass-installation suction cup, position the door glass against all three (3) spacer blocks.

11. With the glass held in position (with the door closed) and the aid of another technician:

a. Tighten the glass front bolt to 8 N.m (71 lb-in).

b. Tighten the glass rear bolt to 8 N.m (71 lb-in).

12. Open the doors and remove the spacer blocks.

13. Close the door to the first door latch position and measure the distance between the outer surface of the door glass and the inside of the roof flange at the second drip rail retainer/moulding hole (counted from the rear quarter glass). Refer to Figure 3.

a. The preferred measurement is 24 mm.

b. This can be adjusted (if necessary) at the rear guide adjustment screw.

14. Torque the two (2) lower rear guide fasteners.

a. Torque the 14 mm nut to 12 N.m (9 lb-ft).

b. Torque the 8 mm nut to 8 N.m (71 lb-in).

15. Install the drip rail retainer/moulding.

16. Install the door weatherstrip.

17. If necessary, minor adjustments can be made to the glass height by using the door glass height stops. Refer to Figure 4.

18. install the door watershield.

19. Install the interior door trim panel as described in Section 501-05 of the Workshop Manual.
