NOTE: The locations or engine mountings and engine support insulators are given looking from the transaxle to the engine.
1. Position the transaxle to the engine using Hi-Lift Transmission Jack.
2. Install the lower rear bellhousing bolts.
3. Install the lower front bellhousing bolts (without three-way catalytic converter (TWC) shown).
4. Disconnect the holding strap and remove Hi-Lift Transmission Jack.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Using the special tools, raise the engine/transaxle unit in position.
7. NOTE: Install new self-locking nuts.
Install the rear transaxle support insulator.
1 Install the bolts.
2 Install the nuts.
8. Raise and support the vehicle.
9. Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
10. Install a new snap ring.
CAUTION: To avoid to damage the halfshaft joints and boots, do not bend the inner halt shaft joint by more than 18 degrees, the outer one by not more than 45 degrees.
11. CAUTION: Do not damage the oil seal.
Install the left hand halfshaft.
^ Check that the snap ring engages correctly.
12. CAUTION: Do not damage the oil seal.
Install the right-hand halfshaft and intermediate shaft.
^ Check that the snap ring engages correctly
13. Install the subframe.
1 Install the special tool.
^ Align the subframe with the locating holes in the body.
2 Install the subframe bolts working diagonally.
14. Remove the mechanics wire securing the steering gear.
15. NOTE: Verify that the RH support insulator is centered in the bracket and in perfect front to rear alignment before tightening the through bolt. As necessary, loosen the support insulator to subframe mounting bolts and reposition the support insulator.
Install the steering gear and the RH engine support insulator.
1 To the subframe.
2 To the bracket.
3 Using the special tool install the steering gear bolts.
16. NOTE: Verify that the LH support insulator is centered in the transaxle bracket and in perfect front to rear alignment before tightening the through bolt.
Install the front support insulator.
1 Position the LH support insulator.
2 Install the nuts.
3 Install the through bolt.
17. Install the power steering line bracket bolt.
18. Attach the power steering lines to the subframe.
19. Install the power steering hose bracket bolt.
20. Attach the shifter cables and bracket.
1 Position the shifter cable bracket.
2 Install the nuts.
3 Attach the shifter cables.
21. Connect the front exhaust tube.
^ Install a new gasket.
22. Install the starter motor.
1 Position the starter motor.
2 Install the lower bolt.
23. NOTE: LH side shown, RH similar.
Install the radiator support brackets.
1 Position the radiator support brackets.
2 Install the bolts.
24. Install the radiator splash shield.
1 Position the radiator splash shield.
2 Install the bolts.
3 Install the push pins.
25. Install the suction accumulator bolts to the subframe (if A/C equipped).
26. CAUTION: Do not damage boot and ABS sensor ring
Connect the lower suspension arm ball joints and the stabilizer link rods.
^ Attach the ABS wiring harness bracket to the suspension strut.
27. Install the fender splash shields (right-hand side shown).
28. Install the front wheels.
29. NOTE: The fill level is 0-5 mm below the lower edge of the filler hole.
Check the transmission fluid level and fill with manual transmission fluid as necessary.
30. Lower the vehicle.
31. Remove the special tools.
32. Install the upper bellhousing and upper starter motor bolts.
1 Install the upper bell housing bolts.
2 Position the ground cable.
3 Install the upper starter motor bolts.
33. Attach the hydraulic line to the bracket and install the push pin.
1 Install the push pin.
2 Attach the hydraulic line to the bracket.
34. Connect the clutch slave cylinder hydraulic line and install the clip.
35. Connect the reversing lamp switch electrical connector.
36. Connect the ground cable to the bell housing.
37. Remove the radiator supports.
38. Install the Air Cleaner (ACL).
1 Fasten the clamp.
2 Connect the electrical connectors.
3 Connect the vent hose.
4 Install the retaining rubber.
5 Connect the inlet tube.
39. Tighten the front wheels (right-hand side shown).
40. NOTE: Use an Allen key to stop the piston rod from turning.
Tighten the suspension strut locknuts (right-hand side shown).
41. Tighten the suspension strut locknuts (right-hand side shown) (continued).
42. Remove the special tool.
43. NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
Connect the battery ground cable.
44. Bleed the clutch slave cylinder hydraulic system with High performance DOT 3 brake fluid or High performance DOT 4 brake fluid.
