The parking brake system is cable operated and controlled by an independent hand-operated parking brake control.

The parking brake system operates the rear drum or rear disc brake systems as follows:
- On vehicles with rear brake drums an independent hand-operated parking brake control lever actuates the rear brake shoes directly through a cable system. Rear Wheel Parking Brake System with Drum Brakes
- On vehicles with rear disc brakes the parking brake control lever activates the rear brake calipers through a cable and rear caliper lever with an Integral cam. A pawl within the rear brake caliper rotates the piston adjustment screw to compensate for pad wear.

To adjust the cable, operate the parking brake control several times.
