Attachment III - Technical Information
OVERVIEWWhen performing this service procedure, you will:
^ inspect for blower motor resistor type.
^ replace the existing wiring harness connector.
^ install a new blower resistor.
^ verify the repair.
INSPECTION
1. If equipped remove the right hand upper foot well trim panel pushpins, and remove the panel.
2. Inspect the blower motor resistor to identify the type. See Figure 1.
^ If the resistor matches type A (without a retaining screw) no repair is needed. Install the right hand upperfoot well trim panel, if equipped.
^ If the resistor matches type B (with a retaining screw), continue with the Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the retaining screw and blower resistor and connector from the heater housing See Figure 2.
CAUTION:
Cut and splice only one wire at a time. The wire colors on the new resistor jumper wire do not match the existing wiring harness colors.
2. Install the new resistor jumper wire (part no. F5RZ-14A411-CA).
A. Select the first wire to be spliced from the switch wiring harness and cut it as close as possible to the blower resistor connector.
B. Select the corresponding wire from the new resistor jumper wire.
C. Strip 1/4-inch insulation from the selected wires.
D. Install the appropriate splice connector, using Crimp Tool No. AD1522 or equivalent ratchet action crimp tool.
E. Test the integrity of the splice after crimping. Grasp the wires and pull gently. If either wire is not attached securely, replace the splice connector and crimp firmly.
F. Repeat steps A through E for the remaining three (3) wires, one at a time.
G. Heat each splice connector thoroughly until the tubing shrinks and adhesive flows from each end. Use Rotunda Heat Gun R07-10300 or equivalent. See Figure 3.
3. Install the new blower resistor (part no. YS4Z-18591-AA).
4. Connect the new resistor jumper wire to the new blower resistor.
5. Check operation of the blower motor.
6. Install the right-hand upper foot well trim panel (if removed).
