Electronic Door Lock Control System
The electronic door lock control system has three main components:- Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module with internal antenna, located underneath instrument panel to the right of the steering column
- five-button keyless entry keypad on the driver door (optional on GL, GS and Wagon)
- four-button (hand-held) keyless entry remote transmitter
The door locks are controlled by the RAP module through the use of external relays.
The RAP module uses a rolling code strategy to decrease the potential for unauthorized use. The remote entry transmitter has a counter that must match, or be synchronized with the vehicle's remote entry receiver's counter in order for the system to operate. It is possible for the transmitter's rolling code counter to become de-synchronized with the vehicle receiver's counter. In this event, a diagnostic trouble code should be stored. In addition, this module controls the perimeter anti-theft system.
The door locks are wired so that the lock and unlock switches on the doors/liftgate can operate the door locks with or without a RAP module installed in the system. The door lock switches are wired directly to the relays that control the door locks.
When the RAP module operates the door locks, it provides a ground, similar to the door lock switches.
Operating through the RAP module, the electronic door lock control system performs the following functions when using the keyless entry remote transmitter:
- Unlocks driver door
- Unlocks all doors and liftgate
- Locks all doors and liftgate
- Opens luggage compartment door
- Panic alarm
- Issues interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off commands (when locking) to the Generic Electronic Module
- Horn chirp verifies when LOCK on keyless entry remote transmitter is pressed twice
- Double horn chirp notifies when door left open
- Deactivates a triggered perimeter alarm
- Arms/disarms anti-theft system
- Allows up to four keyless entry remote transmitters to be programmed
Inputs and Outputs
The Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module receives input from the following for the electrical door lock system:
- keyless entry remote transmitters
- keyless entry keypad
- door disarm switches (left, right and liftgate lock cylinders)
- door ajar output from Generic Electronic Module (GEM)
- door lock switches (left, right and liftgate)
- door unlock switches (left, right and liftgate)
- stoplamp switch
- Transmission Range (TR) sensor
- ignition switch
The RAP module distributes output to the following for the electronic door lock system:
- driver door unlock relay
- all doors unlock relay
- lock all doors relay
- luggage compartment door release relay
- horn relay
- headlamp relay
- illuminated entry request output to GEM
- keypad lamp
- theft indicator in instrument cluster (if equipped)
- liftgate door unlock relay (wagon)
Entry Code
The system (permanent) entry code is located in three places:
- on the owner's wallet code card (in glove compartment)
- electronically accessible by requesting the Remote Anti-Theft Personality (RAP) module KEYCODE PID on the New Generation Star Tester 418-F048 or equivalent.
- on the RAP module housing
The RAP module is programmed at the factory with a five-digit entry code. A replacement RAP module includes replacement labels and a new owner's code card.
To turn on the interior lamps and light all illuminated components:
- press any button on the keyless entry keypad.
To program a temporary access code:
- Enter the permanent code on the keyless entry keypad.
- Press button 1/2 within 5 seconds of last digit of permanent code. (This alerts system to accept temporary code.)
- Enter alternate five-digit code. Do not exceed 5 seconds between entering digits or between pressing the 1/2 key and entering the first digit.
