Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the power door locks and liftgate or luggage compartment door remote release to duplicate the condition.2. Inspect to determine if one of the mechanical or electrical concerns apply:
VISUAL INSPECTION CHART
Mechanical
- Door alignment.
- Latch damage.
- Latch binding.
Electrical
- Failed Power Distribution circuit Breaker 4 (30 A).
- Failed fuse junction panel Fuse 23 (5 A), Fuse 12 (5 A), Fuse 26 (15 A).
- Corroded connectors.
- Loose connectors.
3. If inspection reveals an obvious concern that is readily identified, service as required. Correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.
4. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect the Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) Tester 418-F048 or equivalent to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from the NGS menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
- check that program card is properly installed.
- check connections to vehicle.
- check ignition switch position.
If the NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the NGS Tester manual.
5. Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST using the NGS. If the NGS responds with:
- CKT 70 = ALL MODULES NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, diagnose Multiplex Communication Network concerns.
- NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for Generic Electronic Module (GEM), go to Pinpoint Test A. A: No Communication With Generic Electronic Module
- SYSTEM PASSED for the GEM, retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), erase continuous DTCs, then execute Self Test Diagnostics for the GEM.
6. If DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the GEM DTC Index. Generic Electronic Module Diagnostic Trouble Codes Index
7. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart to continue diagnostics. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
Rotunda Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS (R)) 418-F001 (001-00001) may also be used to diagnose this system.
