Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

COURTESY LAMPS/ILLUMINATED ENTRY DIAGNOSIS
1. Verify the customer's concern by operating the courtesy lamps to duplicate the condition.
2. Inspect to determine if one of the electrical concerns apply:

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Electrical
- Lamps.
- Switches.
- Switches.
- Open fuses.
- Fuse junction panel:
^ 22 (5 A).
^ 27 (10 A).
^ 23 (5 A).
^ 20 (5 A).
^ 8 (5 A).
^ 12 (5 A).
- Open bulbs.
- Loose connectors.
- corroded connectors.

3. If the inspection reveals an obvious concern that is readily repaired, correct the concern before continuing with Inspection and Verification.
4. If a concern remains after the inspection, connect Rotunda New Generation Star (NGS) tester 418-F048 or equivalent to the data link connector located beneath the instrument panel to perform the Data Link Diagnostics Test. If the NGS responds with NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED for the Generic Electronic Module (GEM), GO to Pinpoint Test A. A Courtesy Lamps Inoperative
If the Data Link Diagnostic test is passed for the GEM, retrieve continuous DTCs and execute self test diagnostics for the GEM.
5. If self test is passed and no Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTCs) are retrieved, go to the Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
6. If DTCs are retrieved, go to the GEM DTC Index. GEM Diagnostic Trouble Code Index
