Fuel Charging and Controls

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.

CAUTION: Use O-rings made of fuel-resistant material. Use of incorrect O-rings may result in fuel leakage. Do not reuse O-rings.

The Sequential Multiport Fuel Injection (SFI) system is classified as:
^ multi-point.
^ pulse time.
^ mass air flow-controlled.

Pressurized fuel supplied through a Fuel Injection Supply Manifold is pulsed through four fuel injectors.

The fuel injectors are mounted to the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) assembly.

Fuel amounts are metered by the period of time (pulse width) the fuel injectors are energized by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
