Steering Column

Removal

1. WARNING: When the battery ground cable has been disconnected wait at least two minutes before proceeding to avoid the possibility of accidentally deploying the air bag(s). Disconnect the battery ground cable. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Disconnect the battery ground cable.





2. Remove the driver side instrument panel lower panel.
1. Remove the screw covers.
2. Remove the screws.





3. Center the steering wheel.
^ Lock in position, remove the ignition key.





4. Remove the steering column lower shroud.





5. Remove the steering column upper shroud.





6. Disconnect the steering column shaft from the flexible coupling.
^ Rotate the clamp plate to disengage.





7. Disconnect the electrical connectors on the right-hand side of the steering column.
^ Disconnect the windshield wiper switch electrical connector.
^ Disconnect the air bag module electrical connector.
^ Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
^ Disconnect the passive anti-theft system transceiver electrical connector.
^ Disconnect the speed control electrical connector.
^ Disconnect the key release interlock actuator electrical connector (if equipped).





8. Disconnect the electrical connectors on the left-hand side of the steering column.
1. Disconnect the turn signal/flash to pass switch electrical connector.
2. Detach the speed control electrical connector.





9. Disconnect the air bag control module electrical connector.
^ Cut the cable tie.





10. Remove the steering column.
1. Unclip the wiring harness.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Slide the steering column outwards to disengage the retaining tab.

Installation








1. WARNING: Install a new pinch bolt. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
