System Operation

MAX A/C
When MAX A/C is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum, closing off outside air and recirculating passenger compartment air.
- The defroster duct door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and the plenum/floor door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to the instrument panel registers. There is also some airflow to the side window demisters.
- If equipped with a floor console, the floor console register duct door vacuum control motor will be at full vacuum, directing airflow to the floor console register.
- The temperature is usually set for maximum cold but may be heated if desired.
- The A/C compressor will be enabled when MAX A/C is selected if the outside air temperature is above 5° C (41° F).
- The blower motor is on.

A/C (MANUAL CLIMATE CONTROL)
When A/C is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting outside air into the passenger compartment.
- The A/C compressor will be enabled when A/C is selected if the outside air temperature is above 5° C (41° F).
- The blower motor is on.

VENT
When vent is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting outside air into the passenger compartment.
- The temperature can be adjusted by directing the airflow through and around the heater core to achieve the desired temperature level, but air cannot be cooled below the outside temperature.
- The A/C compressor will be disabled when vent is selected.
- The blower motor is on.

OFF
When OFF is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum, closing off outside air from entering the passenger compartment.
- The defroster duct door and the plenum/floor door vacuum control motors are at no vacuum, closing off airflow to the instrument panel registers, the floor duct, and the rear footwell duct.
- If equipped with a floor console, the floor console register duct door vacuum control motor will be at no vacuum, closing off airflow to the floor console register.
- The A/C compressor will be disabled when OFF is selected.
- The blower motor is off.

PANEL/FLOOR
When panel/floor is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting outside air into the passenger compartment.
- The defroster duct door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and the plenum/floor door vacuum control motor is at partial vacuum, directing airflow to the instrument panel registers, the floor duct, and the rear footwell duct. There is also some airflow to the side window demisters.
- If equipped with a floor console, the floor console register duct vacuum control motor will be at full vacuum, directing airflow to the floor console register.
- The temperature can be set for maximum cold or may be heated is desired.
- The A/C compressor will be enabled when panel/floor is selected if the outside air temperature is above 5° C (41° F).
- The blower motor is on.

FLOOR
When floor is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting outside air into the passenger compartment.
- The defroster duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum and the plenum/floor door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum, directing airflow to the floor duct and the rear footwell duct.
- If equipped with a floor console, the floor console register duct vacuum control motor will be at no vacuum, closing off airflow to the floor console register.
- The temperature can be adjusted by directing the airflow through and around the heater core to achieve the desired temperature level, but air cannot be cooled below the outside temperature.
- The A/C compressor will be disabled when floor is selected.
- The blower motor is on.

FLOOR/DEFROST
When floor/defrost is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting outside air into the passenger compartment.
- The defroster duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum and the plenum/floor door vacuum control motor is at partial vacuum, directing airflow to the defroster duct, the floor duct, and the rear footwell duct. There is also some airflow to the side window demisters.
- If equipped with a floor console, the floor console register duct door vacuum control motor will be at no vacuum, closing off airflow to the floor console register.
- The temperature can be set for maximum cold or may be heated if desired.
- The A/C compressor will be enabled when floor/defrost is selected to dehumidify the air and reduce windshield fogging if the outside air temperature is above 50° C (41° F).
- The blower motor is on.

DEFROST
When defrost is selected:
- The recirculation air duct door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting outside air into the passenger compartment.
- The defroster duct door and the plenum/floor door vacuum control motors are at no vacuum, directing airflow to the defroster duct.
- If equipped with a floor console, the floor console register duct door vacuum control motor will be at no vacuum, closing off airflow to the floor console register.
- The A/C compressor will be enabled when defrost is selected to dehumidify the air and reduce windshield fogging if the outside air temperature is above 5° C (41° F).
- The blower motor is on.
