Exterior Lighting

The front turn signal lamps and side lamps are integrated into the headlamp assembly and cannot be removed individually.

The headlamp is divided into three compartments. The turn signal lamp, low and high beam are all separate from each other. Despite its small size and low depth, the "Complex Shape" reflector provides a very strong beam.

The headlamp must be removed to gain access to the low beam bulb, high beam bulb, turn signal lamp and the side lamp. After removal the headlamp alignment should always be checked.

Headlamp System
The headlamp system consists of the following components:
^ Two headlamps.
^ Lamp switch.
^ Relays for switching high and low beam.
^ Turn signal/high-low beam switch.
^ High beam display.
^ Wiring.
^ Fuses.

The voltage is supplied to the lamp switch through a fuse. This fuse is located in the Central Junction Box (CJB) in the left-hand footwell.

If the lamp switch is set to "headlamps", a voltage is supplied to the low beam relay. The relay for the dipped beam is located in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) in the engine compartment.

If the high beam/low beam switch is set to "high beam", then a voltage is supplied through the high beam relay to the high beam part of the headlamp assembly. The left and right-hand high beams are fused separately. The fuses are located in the BJB.

Lamp Switch
The lamp switch has four settings;
^ Off.
^ Side lamps.
^ Headlamps.
^ Fog lamps.

When the lamp switch is set to "side lamps". a voltage is supplied to the front and rear side lamps, as well as to the license plate lamp. The side lights for the left and right-hand sides are fused separately. The fuses are located in the CJB.

The fog lamps can be switched on by pulling the switch knob at all times. If the high beam relay is energized, the fog lamps are switched off by the released fog lamp relay.

Instrument Lighting Dimmer Module
^ The instrument lighting dimmer module is a variable resistance switch.
^ The instrument lighting dimmer module controls the brightness of the instrument lighting, the audio control unit lighting and the air conditioning lighting.

"Lights On" Warning Signal
The "lights on" warning signal is part of the central timer module. It is located in the CJB.

If when the ignition is off the switch is set to "headlamps" or "side lamps on", then a warning signal sounds when the driver door is opened.

Stoplamp Switch
The stoplamp switch:
^ Is an ON/OFF switch.
^ Is located underneath the instrument panel near the brake pedal mounting bracket.
^ Supplies a voltage from a fuse in the CJB to the high mounted stoplamp and through the turn signal switch to the stoplamps.

High Mounted Stoplamp
^ Voltage is supplied to the high mounted stoplamp through the stoplamp switch.

Parking, Side Lamps
^ The voltage for these lamps is supplied through the lamp switch.
^ The left and right-hand circuits are fused separately in the CJB.
^ The lights will illuminate when the light switch is set to "side lamps" or "headlamps".

License Plate Lamp
^ The license plate lamp lights up when the lamp switch is set to either "side lamps" or "headlamps".

Reversing Lamps
The reversing lamps system consists of the following components:
^ Reversing lamps.
^ Transaxle range sensor (automatic transaxle).
^ Reversing lamp switch (manual transaxle).
^ Wiring.
^ Fuse.

The voltage supply to the reversing lamps is provided by the reversing lamp switch on vehicles equipped with a manual transaxle and by the transaxle range sensor on vehicles equipped with an automatic transaxle. There is a fuse for this circuit in the CJB.

Turn Signal Lamps and Hazard Warning Lights
The turn signal lamps and hazard warning lamps system consists of the following components:
^ Turn signal/high-low beam switch.
^ Turn signal relay.
^ Turn signal lamps.
^ Turn signal indicator.
^ Wiring.
^ Fuse.

The turn signal relay is supplied with a voltage through turn signal/high-low beam switch. There is a fuse for the turn signal/high-low beam switch in both the BJB and the CJB.

If the turn signal/high-low beam lamp switch is switched downwards, then the left-hand turn signal lamps are supplied with a voltage through the turn signal relay. If the turn signal/high-low beam lamp switch is switched upwards, then the right-hand turn signal lamps are supplied with a voltage through the turn signal relay.

Hazard Flasher Switch
^ The hazard flasher switch is integrated into the turn signal/high-low beam lamp switch. It is located on the top of the steering column shroud.
^ When the hazard flasher switch is switched on, all six turn signal lamps and both turn signal indicators in the instrument cluster are supplied with a voltage through the turn signal relay.

Turn Signal Relay
The turn signal relay:
^ Is located on the steering column on the turn signal/high-low beam lamp switch.
