TRIM - DEFROSTER GRILLE LIFTING OUT OF POSITION

ISSUE

Some vehicles may exhibit a condition where the defroster grille edges lift out of the dash pad. System performance is not affected. This may be caused by the design of the defroster grille.

ACTION

Install Service Kit 2S8Z-5404282-AA to improve mechanical retention of the defroster grille. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove defroster grille from Dash Pad and make sure it is not damaged.








2. Clean all mating surfaces on the Dash Pad and defroster grille as indicated in Figures 1 and 2 using Isopropyl Alcohol wipes (part ZC-4 or equivalent).

3. Attach six of the 1" x 1" self adhesive dual lock pads to the center of defroster grille positions 2, 4, 5, 7 and on molded round boss in positions 1 and 8 (Figure 1).

4. Attach four 3/4" x 1" self adhesive dual lock pads to the four connection bridges and two 1" x 2" self adhesive dual lock pads at the ends of the Dash Pad (Figure 2).

5. Apply a thin layer of Silicone Brake Caliper Grease and Dielectric Compound (XG-3) to the outer edge of the defroster grille (Figure 1).

NOTE
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET ANY SILICONE LUBRICANT ON THE "A" SURFACE OF THE GRILLE. WIPE IMMEDIATELY WITH CLEAN RAG IF SILICONE DOES GET ON "A" SURFACE.

6. Center defroster grille in dash pad defroster grille opening.

7. Starting at one end, push the defroster grille into the front edge of the Dash Pad groove and then press the rear edge of the grille down. Continue in this manner until the entire defroster grille is seated in the Dash Pad defroster grille opening.

8. Push down on defroster grille positions 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 to ensure the dual lock pads are engaged.

9. Wipe the defroster grille and dash pad with a clean cloth dampened with water and Triple Clean (ZC-13). Do not spray Triple Clean directly on the grille or dash pad.
