Cylinder Head-RHRemoval
1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Remove the right-hand Heated Oxygen (HO2S) sensor.
3. Remove the camshafts.
4. NOTE: If the camshaft followers are to be reused, mark their position to make sure they are assembled in the original location.
Remove the roller finger followers.
5. Remove the twelve hydraulic lash adjusters.
6. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) backpressure transducer electrical connector.
7. Remove the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube from the exhaust manifold.
8. Remove the PCV valve tube.
1. Remove the bracket nut.
2. Disconnect the hose.
9. Remove the bolt and stud and position the water bypass to one side.
10. NOTE:
^ Remove the right-hand cylinder head with the exhaust manifold and EGR backpressure transducer bracket attached.
^ Remove the bolts in the indicated sequence.
Remove the right-hand cylinder head.
^ Discard the gasket.
11. NOTE: Remove the nuts in the indicated sequence.
Remove the exhaust manifold.
12. Clean and inspect the cylinder head and cylinder block.
Installation
1. NOTE: The head gaskets must be installed over the cylinder head to block dowels.
Install a new cylinder head gasket.
2. CAUTION: Use care when installing the cylinder head. Damage to the cylinder block and/or the cylinder head may result.
NOTE:
^ Make sure the cylinder head is installed in its original position.
^ Tighten the bolts in the indicated sequence in six stages.
Position the right-hand cylinder head and install new cylinder head bolts with washers.
^ Stage 1: Tighten to 40 Nm.
^ Stage 2: Tighten 90 degrees.
^ Stage 3: Loosen 360 degrees in reverse sequence.
^ Stage 4: Tighten to 40 Nm.
^ Stage 5: Tighten 90 degrees.
^ Stage 6: Tighten 90 degrees.
3. NOTE: Tighten the nuts in the indicated sequence.
Install the right-hand exhaust manifold.
4. Lubricate new O-ring seals with coolant and install the water bypass tube.
5. Install the PCV valve tube.
1. Connect the hose.
2. Install the bracket nut.
6. Install the EGR valve to exhaust manifold tube to the exhaust manifold.
7. Connect the EGR backpressure transducer electrical connector.
8. NOTE: Make sure the lash adjusters are installed in their original position.
Install the lash adjusters.
9. NOTE:
^ Make sure the roller finger followers are installed in their original position.
^ Lubricate the roller finger followers with clean engine oil before installation.
Install the roller finger followers.
10. Install the camshafts.
11. Install the right-hand HO2S sensor.
12. Fill engine cooling system.
