Steering Column Shaft

Removal

1. Turn the steering wheel to the straight ahead position and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.





2. CAUTION: Do not allow the steering wheel to rotate while the steering column intermediate shaft is disconnected or damage to the clockspring can result. If there is evidence that the steering column shaft has rotated, the clockspring must be removed and recentered.

Remove the pinch bolt and disconnect the upper half of the lower steering column shaft from the steering column lower yoke.
^ Discard the bolt.





3. Remove the pinch bolt and disconnect the lower steering column shafts from each other.





4. Remove the upper half of the lower steering column shaft.





5. Remove the cover.





6. Remove and discard the pinch bolt.





7. Disconnect the lower half of the lower steering column shaft from the steeling gear and remove the shaft.
8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
