This article supersedes TSB 03-02-05 to update the vehicle model year coverage.
ISSUE
A grunting noise may be observed from the front power window area as the glass reaches the top of its travel. The noise typically occurs approximately 2 inches (5 cm) from the full-up position.
ACTION
Apply Motorcraft Window Regulator Grease to the window regulator mechanism sliding surfaces. This is a new longer lasting lubricant with improved adhesion, a wider service temperature range, and a lower friction characteristic than previously used lubricants. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Remove the interior door trim panel as outlined in the Workshop Manual Section 501-05.
2. Pull the splash shield back to gain access to the window regulator channels.
3. Refer to Figures 1-5 for lubrication points on the window regulator. Use 0.5 ounce (15 ml) of lubricant per door, (half of the 1 oz. (30 ml) tube).
4. Application Of Grease To The Fixed/Smaller Regulator Channel: With the front door glass in the full-up position and the key out of the ignition, apply the grease (XG-9) to the upper and lower portions of the track (full length), on the slider, and on the slider pivot of the fixed/smaller channel. Access the channel through the rear access hole on the front door sheet metal. To verify sufficient coverage, use a flat mirror to view the upper and lower tracks and the slider and slider pivot. Reapply grease where there is no coverage. Fully lower and raise the glass one time to help migrate the lubricant.
5. Application Of Grease To The Larger/Moving Regulator Channel: Move the glass down so the larger channel is 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 cm) higher than the fixed channel. Turn the ignition to off and take out the key to turn off power to the window regulator. Through the front and rear access holes in the door sheet metal, apply grease to the larger channel's upper and lower portions of the track (full length), on the sliders, and on the slider pivots. Use an extension brush or acid brush to apply grease along the total length of the channel. Fully raise and lower the glass 2 times to help migrate the lubricant.
6. Reinstall splash shield and interior door trim per Workshop Manual.
