Warning Devices
All warning chime tones are produced and controlled by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).Door Ajar Indicator Lamp and Chime
The door ajar indicator and chime feature is controlled by the Generic Electronic Module (GEM). The driver and passenger door ajar switches (and liftgate) are hardwired to the GEM. If any door (or liftgate) is sensed as being open, the module will process the input, and in turn output an audible chime and a visual warning to the door ajar warning indicator lamp.
Safety Belt Warning Indicator Lamp and Chime
The safety belt indicator and chime feature is controlled by the GEM. The driver safety belt switch is hardwired to the Restraint Control Module (RCM). If at any time during the first 60 seconds after the ignition switch is placed in RUN the driver safety belt is sensed as being unfastened, the RCM will process the input, and in turn, output a signal to the GEM via a hardwired circuit. In turn the GEM will output a visual warning to the safety belt warning indicator lamp. If at any time during the first six seconds after the ignition switch is place in run and the safety belt is not fastened, the safety belt warning chime will sound.
Headlamp-On Warning Chime
This function provides audible warning to the operator of the vehicle that the head/parking lamps are ON when the ignition is in the OFF position and the driver door is open.
Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime
This function provides audible warning to the operator of the vehicle that the key is left in the ignition switch while the vehicle is not running and the driver's door is open.
Air Bag Warning Chime
The air bag warning chime function warns the driver that the air bag warning indicator lamp is not operating and a fault has occurred in the air bag system by sounding a chime when the ignition is in RUN.
Belt Minder
NOTE: The belt minder feature is configurable. If configuring using a diagnostic tool, refer to Module Communications Network (Information Bus). To configure without using a diagnostic tool, refer to Seat Belt Systems.
The belt minder feature supplements the current safety belt warning function. The belt minder feature is enabled after the current safety belt warning is complete. If the driver safety belt is not buckled approximately five seconds after the safety belt warning light has been turned off, the belt minder reminds the driver that their safety belt is unbuckled by intermittently sounding a chime and illuminating the safety belt warning lamp in the instrument cluster. While activated, the belt minder alternates the chime and indicator from on for six seconds to off for 30 seconds.
The belt minder reminder stops when:
^ the driver safety belt is buckled
^ the ignition is turned to OFF or ACCESSORY.
^ five minutes have elapsed since belt minder has started.
Parking Brake Warning Chime
This function provides audible warning to the operator of the vehicle that the parking brake is ON when the ignition is in the RUN position.
