Tension Strut-WagonRemoval and Installation
CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number must be installed if installation is necessary. Do not use a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
NOTE: Note the orientation of the bushings as the tension strut is being removed for assembly reference.
1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
2. Position a jack stand under the lower control arm and slightly raise the suspension.
3. Remove the bolt and detach the shock absorber. Discard the bolt.
4. Remove and discard the nut. Remove the washer and the bushing.
5. Remove and discard the nut. Remove the washer, the body end outer bushing and the sleeve.
6. Remove and discard the lower control arm-to-spindle flag bolts and nuts. Pull the wheel spindle out of the control arm and toward the rear of the vehicle and remove the tension strut.
7. Remove the tension strut-to-spindle bushing the body end inner bushing, and the washers.
8. NOTE: The bushings at the front and rear of the tension strut are different sizes and shapes. Make sure the bushings are installed correctly.
NOTE: The cupped side of the washers must face away from the bushings.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
