A/C - FEAD Belt Chirping Upon Compressor Engagement

CHIRP NOISE FROM FEAD AREA WHEN A/C
COMPRESSOR ENGAGES

ISSUE
Some 2002-2005 Town Car, Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis vehicles may exhibit a chirp noise from the front end accessory drive (FEAD) area when the A/C compressor is engaging.
ACTION
Verify the concern. Replace the NC compressor clutch pulley, and set the clutch air gap to the specification listed in this TSB. The Workshop Manual specification is being updated. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect overflow hose, remove retainers then unbolt and position aside the degas bottle.
NOTE
DO NOT REMOVE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE FROM DEGAS BOTTLE
2. Remove retainers and position aside power steering reservoir.
3. Disconnect Battery Ground Cable.
4. Disconnect engine cooling fan electrical connector.
5. Remove engine cooling fan retainer.
6. Remove engine cooling fan.
7. Remove the FEAD belt.
8. Remove the A/C clutch disc and hub retaining nut using Special Tool (412-098) to hold the A/C clutch disc and hub.
9. Remove the A/C clutch disc and hub.
10. Remove the A/C clutch disc and hub spacer.
11. Remove the A/C clutch pulley snap-ring.
12. Using the Special Tool 205-D026 or equivalent, remove the A/C clutch pulley.
CAUTION
DO NOT USE AIR TOOLS. DAMAGE TO THE A/C CLUTCH PULLEY MAY RESULT.
13. Install new A/C clutch pulley using Special Tool 412-109.
14. Reinstall the A/C compressor pulley snap ring.
15. Reinstall the original A/C clutch hub spacer.
16. Reinstall the A/C clutch disc and hub.
17. Using Special Tool 412-098, hold the A/C clutch plate and reinstall the A/C clutch nut. Tighten to 13 lb-ft (18 N.m).
18. Measure and adjust the clutch air gap to 0.010 - 0.024" (0.254 - 0.610 mm), by adding or removing A/C clutch disc and hub spacers.
19. Install FEAD Belt.
20. Install engine cooling fan.
21. Install engine cooling fan retainer tighten to 89 lb-in (10 N.m).
22. Connect engine cooling fan electrical connector.
23. Reposition power steering reservoir and install retainer and tighten 9 lb-ft (12 N.m).
24. Position back the degas bottle install retainer and tighten to 89 lb-in (10 N.m).
25. Connect overflow hose to degas bottle.
26. Connect the negative battery cable.
