Brakes - Auto-Release Park Brake Hard to Set

AUTO RELEASE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM
DIFFICULT TO SET

FORD:
2005 Crown Victoria

LINCOLN:

MERCURY:
2005 Grand Marquis

ISSUE
Some 2005 Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Town Car vehicles built before 05/1/2005 equipped with an Auto Release Parking Brake system may exhibit a difficulty to set condition when in Park.

ACTION
Verify the pedal is difficult to set and replace the Park Brake Switch following the Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Depress the parking brake pedal with the engine running and the transmission in Park.

2. If the pedal will not set, disconnect the vacuum hose at the vacuum brake release control motor and repeat test.

3. If the pedal stays depressed with the vacuum hose disconnected, replace the Park Brake Switch (2B623) located on the steering column, reconnect all vacuum hoses and retest.
