PARKING BRAKE CONTROL SLOW TO RELEASE, VEHICLES BUILT FROM 12/06/2004 THROUGH 11/21/2005

2005-2006 Grand Marquis

ISSUE
Some 2005 and 2006 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis vehicles built between 12/06/2004 and 11/21/2005 may exhibit a slow parking brake control release, only when using the manual release handle.

ACTION
Verify the concern and replace the manual cable release handle following the Service Procedure.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. With the transmission in Park, apply the Parking Brake.

2. Verify slow release of park brake pedal when using the manual release handle.

3. Reapply the park brake, remove release handle assembly from knee bolster trim and release the parking brake by pulling the handle to full travel.





4. If parking brake releases quicker in Step 3, replace original handle (2B658) with newly designed shorter release handle assembly, see Figure 1. If release is still slow, refer to Work Shop Manual, Section 206-05 for further Parking Brake Diagnosis.
