FRONT SUSPENSION NOISE - SQUEAK / CREAK -
OVER BUMPS OR WHEN TURNING

ISSUE
Some 2006 Fusion, Milan, and Zephyr vehicles may exhibit a concern of a squeak or creak noise from the front suspension while going over bumps or turning.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. To isolate the creak / squeak noise, place two (2) Chassis Ears microphones on each side right hand (RH) and left hand (LH), clip one to the side member at the front lower control arm (LCA) pocket point 3 and the other at point 4 attachment. (Figure 1)
2. Take the vehicle for a short drive at low speeds.
3. If noise at sub-frame point 3 bracket still exists, inspect the LCA bracket area very closely for rust / cracks isolated to the area along the welds. (Figure 2)
4. If there is rust under / along welds as indication of a cracked weld, follow the repair procedure and repair the side(s) affected (LH, RH or both).
Cracked Weld Repair Procedure
1. Remove the sub-frame assembly following the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 502-00.
2. Use the LCA Repair Kit and follow the instruction sheet.
NOTE
APPLY MOTORCRAFT(R) ANTI-CORROSION COATING (PM-12-A) TO WELDS AND ANY WHERE THE E-COAT WAS REMOVED.
3. Reinstall sub-frame using WSM, Section 502-00.
