AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WHINE BETWEEN 40-60
MPH (64-97 KM/H) - 3.0L ENGINE

ISSUE
Some 2006-2007 Fusion, Milan, and 2006 Zephyr vehicles equipped with the 3.0L engine and built before 9/2/2006 may exhibit a transmission whine on light accelerator tip-in at speeds between 40-60 MPH (64-97 Km/h).

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Install mass Damper Kit on the transmission shift cable in the engine compartment of the vehicle near the bulk head by following these steps:

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





2. Install two (2) halves of the mass damper around trans shift cable at the base of the bulk head grommet. (Figure 1)

3. Secure mass damper with two (2) screws and torque to 53 in-lbs (6 N.m).
