ISSUE
Some 2007 Five Hundred and Montego vehicles built before 8/25/2006 may exhibit a squeak / creak / click noise from the chrome wheel covers while the vehicle is moving at slow speeds.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition by lubricating the outer edge of the wheel cover with a high silicone content lubricant (Motorcraft(R) XL-6).
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Attach the nozzle straw to the can of Motorcraft(R) XL-6 Silicone Spray Lubricant.
2. Starting at the 12 O'clock position, position the end of the straw at the gap between the chrome wheel cover and the edge of the aluminum rim. (Figure 1)
3. Spray silicone lubricant into the gap all the way around the wheel finishing at the 12 O'clock position, ensuring that all 360° of the gap was lubricated. Total spray time should be approximately 5 seconds per wheel.
4. Wipe off any excess silicone spray lubricant from the wheel face with a rag.
5. Repeat procedure on remaining three (3) wheels.
NOTE
WEAR PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT - GLOVES AND SAFETY GLASSES. NO SMOKING DURING THE REPAIR.
NOTE
