ISSUE
Some 2010 Fusion and Milan vehicles built on or before 9/9/2009 may exhibit a loose or detached passenger-side instrument panel appearance applique. Some of the trim clips on the appearance applique might become loose due to excessive felt material between the appearance trim applique piece and the attachment slot.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. If the appearance trim applique is loose at one end only, pry and remove the entire applique from the instrument panel using a shop towel and an small plastic or wood scraper. If the applique is completely loose gently remove the applique. (Figure 1)
NOTE
USE CAUTION NOT TO DAMAGE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHEN PRYING THE APPLIQUE LOOSE FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. USE THE SHOP TOWEL TO CUSHION THE SMALL PLASTIC OR WOOD SCRAPER.
2. Inspect the applique for any missing or damaged clips retainers.
a. If any clips are missing, install new clips and proceed to Step 3.
b. If the appearance trim applique plastic studs are damaged or missing, replace the appearance trim applique and proceed to Step 3.
3. On the instrument panel, remove and discard all three (3) 1" by 1/2" (2.5 mm by 1.7 mm) felt tape foam inserts from the instrument panel, by using a plastic or wood scraper. Use care when removing the foam inserts from the instrument panel as to not damage the instrument panel. (Figures 2-3)
NOTE
DO NOT USE ANY TYPE OF ADHESIVE OR GLUE WHEN INSTALLING THE APPEARANCE APPLIQUE BACK TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH SURFACE.
4. Install appearance trim applique onto the instrument panel by applying even light pressure across the appearance trim applique. Use isopropanol alcohol wipe (91% alcohol) to clean the appearance trim applique.
