Pinpoint Test AC: DTC U0196

Normal Operation
- DTC U0196 (Lost Communication With Entertainment Control Module - Rear [AUX]) - set by the Audio Control Module (ACM) when certain Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) messages are missing from the Rear Entertainment Module (RETM) for greater than 2 seconds.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Module communication
- ACM
- RETM



PINPOINT TEST AC: DTC U0196

AC1 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN


- Verify that there is an observable symptom present.
- Is an observable symptom present?

Yes
GO to AC2.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

AC2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK


- Ignition ON.
- Carry out the network test using the scan tool.
- Does the RETM pass the network test?

Yes
GO to AC3.

No
REFER to Information Bus.

AC3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE ACM SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded DTCs from the ACM self-test.
- Is DTC B1318 recorded?

Yes
Go To Pinpoint Test W. Pinpoint Test W: DTC B1318 (Audio Control Module (ACM))

No
GO to AC4.

AC4 RECHECK THE ACM DTCs


NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.

- Ignition ON.
- Using the scan tool, clear any ACM continuous DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Retrieve the ACM continuous DTCs.
- Is DTC U0196 still present?

Yes
GO to AC5.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or intermittent fault condition.

AC5 CHECK FOR DTC U0196 SET IN OTHER MODULES


- Using the scan tool, clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait at least 10 seconds.
- Retrieve the continuous DTCs from all modules.
- Is DTC U0196 set in more than one module?

Yes
INSTALL a new RETM. REFER to Rear Entertainment Module (RETM) Service and Repair. CLEAR the ACM DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to Audio Control Module (ACM) Audio Control Module (ACM). TEST the system for normal operation.
