Rear Suspension
Stabilizer Bar - All Wheel Drive (AWD)
Removal and Installation
NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.
NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part numbers or equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
1. Remove the underbody catalytic converter, muffler and resonator as an assembly.
2. Using a suitable jackstand, support the front of the vehicle.
3. NOTICE: Do not allow the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly to hang by the flexible brake hose or damage to the hose may occur.
Remove the LH brake caliper anchor plate bolts and position the LH brake caliper assembly aside.
- Support the caliper using mechanic's wire.
- To install, tighten to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft).
4. Remove and discard the LH wheel hub nut.
- To install, tighten the new nut to 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).
5. Using the Front Wheel Hub Remover, press the LH axle shaft out of the hub.
6. Remove and discard the LH wheel knuckle ball joint nut.
- To install, tighten the new nut to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft).
7. Using the Ball Joint Separator and Adapter, disconnect the LH wheel knuckle from the upper arm.
8. Position a suitable jackstand under the LH lower control arm at the shock and spring assembly attachment point, then raise the jackstand enough to compress the shock absorber and spring assembly.
9. Remove and discard the LH trailing arm-to-wheel knuckle bolt, then loosen the trailing arm-to-subframe bolt.
- To install, tighten the new bolt to 105 Nm (77 lb-ft).
10. Loosen the LH lower arm-to-wheel knuckle bolt.
- To install, tighten to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft).
11. Remove and discard the LH toe link-to-knuckle nut and bolt and allow the LH wheel knuckle to hang in a downward position.
- To install, tighten the new nut to 100 Nm (74 lb-ft).
12. Loosen, but do not remove the LH lower shock absorber and spring assembly bolt, then carefully lower the jackstand until the spring is near its full extension.
13. Remove and discard the LH shock absorber lower bolt and disconnect the shock absorber from the lower arm.
- To install, tighten the new bolt to 105 Nm (77 lb-ft).
14. Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link lower nuts.
- To install, tighten the new nuts to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
15. Remove and discard the stabilizer bar bracket bolts.
- To install, tighten the new bolts to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
16. Remove the stabilizer bar from the LH side of the vehicle.
17. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
