ISSUE
Some 2010 Fusion, Milan, MKZ, Fusion Hybrid, and Milan Hybrid vehicles equipped with dual automatic temperature control (DATC) and built before 6/1/2009 may exhibit a passenger temperature blend door stuck in hot mode. This condition typically occurs most often when cycling the A/C control temperature from extreme cold to hot and from hot to cold.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
NOTE
THIS PROCEDURE IS ONLY FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH DATC CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEMS.
1. Verify the Concern. Perform this procedure with a person sitting in the driver's side only.
a. Idle the engine at an ambient temperature of 60 °F (16 °C) or higher until the engine is fully warmed up.
b. Set the DATC control head to 60 °F (16 °C) for both drivers and passengers sides.
c. Set the mode to panel/vent and ensure A/C is switched-on.
d. Set the blower to highest speed. Idle the engine for 5 minutes with the hood down. The driver's left-center vent discharge air temperature should be a minimum of 60°F (16 °C) when DATC is set at 60°F (16 °C). The passenger's right-center vent discharge air temperature should be a minimum of 60°F (16 °C) when DATC is set at 60°F (16°C).
e. For both sides:
(1) If A/C performance is met on both sides, return the vehicle to the customer and do not continue with this procedure.
f. For Drivers side:
(1) If the A/C temperature discharge on the drivers side is met, return the vehicle to the customer and do not continue with this procedure, if the drivers temperature is not met, proceed with normal diagnostics in Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 412-00.
g. For Passengers side:
(1) If the temperature discharge on passengers vents is not at 60°F (16°C) when the DATC is set at 60 °F (15°C) and it remains in hot mode, with temperatures above 80°F (27°C) off the vents, proceed to Step 2.
2. Is the temperature blend door on the passengers side stuck in hot mode when DATC is set at 60 °F (16 °C)?
a. No - Proceed with normal diagnosis, do not proceed with this procedure. If other concerns occur, proceed with normal diagnosis in WSM section 412-00.
b. Yes - Proceed to Step 3.
3. Reprogram the climate control module to the latest calibration using IDS release 62.09 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2009.7 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
a. If the temperature on the passengers side remains in hot mode after DATC programming, proceed to Step 4.
b. If the temperature on the passengers side is corrected release the vehicle, do not continue with this procedure.
4. If vehicle was built on or before 4/6/2009 replace the right hand side temperature blend door and upper heater core and evaporator core housing divider, refer to WSM, Section 412-01 under removal and installation of evaporator core procedure. If built after 4/6/2009 proceed to Step 5.
5. If vehicle was built on or after 4/6/2009 to 6/1/2009 replace the right hand side temperature blend door only per WSM, Section 412-01, under Removal and Installation of Evaporator Core procedure.
If other abnormal conditions exist, follow normal diagnostics in WSM, Section 412-00. Return the vehicle to the owner and explain how the feature works.
