SUBJECT
Service Action for BC1 Replacement and Harness Repair

MODEL
R50, R53

SITUATION

In certain circumstances, moisture may collect in the BC1 plug connector and cause a variety of electrical malfunctions.

For example, door window, sun roof or air conditioning may be activated or deactivated without driver input.

Note that after completing this Service Action, the Convenience Open feature using the key in the driver's door lock is no longer available. The feature remains available using the remote key, but only if selected in Vehicle Memory. The customer must be advised, and given the opportunity to change his or her Vehicle Memory settings. For available Vehicle Memory settings, refer to SI M09 01 02.

Note:
Three different VIN ranges are listed. Each has a specific repair procedure and an unique defect code to identify the campaign.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves R50 and R53 vehicles which were produced from April 24, 2001 to January 22, 2002.

In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System).

The Chassis Number Ranges listed below are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS

This Service Action has been assigned code number 5. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-013) and:

a. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);

b. punch out code number 5 printed on the label and,

c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.

If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
