Body - A-Pillar Trim Cracked

Cracked Outside A-Pillar Trim

SITUATION

The outside A-pillar trim is cracked in the upper area.

CAUSE

Side window glass makes contact with the outside A-pillar trim. This can be caused by incorrect adjustment of the front windows or malfunction of the automatic window-lowering function when opening the doors.

CORRECTION

Verify front window adjustment and that the active automatic window-lowering function is active when opening the door. In both cases, make sure that the side window glass and the outside A-pillar trim do not contact each other.

PROCEDURE

1. Adjust the front window, see Repair Instructions RA 51 32 154.

2. Initialize automatic window-lowering function per Repair Instructions RA 67 62... so that it is active when the door is opened. This initialization must be performed:

^ In case of malfunctions, e.g. incomplete closing.

^ After disconnecting the battery.

^ After replacing the window regulator motor.

^ After adjusting the window regulator.

3. Replace the cracked outside A-pillar trim. See also Service Information M51 01 05.
