Adjusting handbrake

Before adjusting Description and Operation

Perform inspection in the following manner:

When 1st click is engaged, no braking effect should be present. Warning light may be illuminated.

2nd click.

Handbrake light must illuminate. Force will be present on both wheels. the difference on wheel circumferential forces (left/right wheel) must not deviate by a value greater than 175 Nm (measured on the roller test rig).

In event of larger deviations of wheel circumferential force:

Carry out readjustment.

It should be possible to hold vehicle with handbrake.

the handbrake must be readjusted whenever the actuation stroke is greater than 7 teeth.

Note:
^ Handbrake can only be adjusted correctly if handbrake cables and all moving parts of handbrake move easily and function correctly.
^ Handbrake adjustment is necessary when:
- Replacing rear brake pads.
- Replacing brake discs.
- Excessive actuation stroke (7 teeth).
- Replacing handbrake Bowden cables.





Setting instructions
Unclip handbrake lever gaiter (1).

Slacken self-locking nut (2) until tension is completely released on Bowden cable.

Replace rear brake pads. Rear





Tighten the adjuster nut on handbrake until a gap of 1 - 2 mm (3) can be seen on the handbrake mechanism between the grooved pin (1) and the lever (2).

Push brake pedal firmly once to initialize the position of the rear caliper piston.

IMPORTANT: Handbrake cable must be adjusted before initializing the foot brake.

Perform inspection check.

On rolling dynamometer
Handbrake lever in released position:

Handbrake warning light is not illuminated.

No braking effort should be present.

1st click
No braking effect should be present.
Warning light may be illuminated.

2nd click
Handbrake light must illuminate.
Force will be present on both wheels

4th click
Wheel force between 700 and 1200 Nm.
Difference left hand side to right hand side maximum of 175 Nm.
