Body - Tailgate Hard to Open/Close

SUBJECT
Tailgate is Difficult to Open and/or Close

MODEL
R50, R53, R56 (Cooper, Cooper S)

SITUATION
The tailgate may be difficult to open and/or close.

CAUSE
The hinges which secure the tailgate to the body of the vehicle may not be properly lubricated.

CORRECTION
Applying adhesive spray lubricant to the hinges at regular intervals will prevent excessive friction within the tailgate hinges.

PROCEDURE

1. Spray lubricant into the moving part of each hinge.

2. Wipe any overspray off the painted surface around the hinges.

3. Open and close the tailgate several times for the lubricant to penetrate the hinges.

NOTE:
This lubrication of the hinges should also be carried out at each scheduled service as noted under Standard Operations in the MINI Service & Information Warranty Booklet
