Advance Information

SUBJECT
Front Seat Backrest Inoperative

MODEL
R50 MINI Cooper, R53 MINI Cooper S

SITUATION
Front seat backrest will not hold when adjusted to the desired position.

CAUSE
Inboard and outboard backrest latch mechanisms may be out of synchronization.

CORRECTION

From outside the car, move the seat into the full easy entry position by pressing down the outboard lever (1) and sliding the seat into the full forward position. This easy entry position is the home position for the inboard and outboard backrest mechanisms.

While sitting on the opposite front seat (the one which is not being worked on), push the backrest to a complete reclined position while pulling the inboard lever (2) upward.

Keep pulling the inboard lever (2) up while pushing the backrest and release the lever once the complete reclined position is reached.

Verify the backrest operation by pulling the inboard lever up. Once the lever is released, the backrest should hold in the desired position.

If the backrest cannot be synchronized using this procedure, the backrest frame may need to be replaced.

Please refer to SI M52 03 02 for more information on the latest style lever.

PARTS INFORMATION

Orders for parts specified may be placed as a VOR or Stock order and can be placed using the vehicle VIN number. Please place the VIN number in the comment field of you DCS order. It is recommended that the VIN NOT be used as the P.O. number. This will prevent using the VIN again for subsequent VIN specific orders. Only orders with a VIN will be released. All other orders will be cancelled.

NON-VIN SPECIFIC ORDERS WILL BE CANCELLED. ORDERS FAXED IN TO DIRECT SHIPMENT WILL NOT BE ENTERED. MULTIPLE QUANTITY ORDERS WILL BE CANCELLED. IT IS THE DEALER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENTER THE ORDERS THROUGH DCS WITH A VIN NUMBER.
