SUBJECT
Squeaks From Seat Cushion Frame

MODEL
MINI Cooper, Cooper S

SITUATION
Some owners of cars produced prior to 9/02 may complain of squeaking noises from the seat cushion frame.

CAUSE
Inadequate lubrication of various pivot points in the seat cushion frame.

CORRECTION

As of September 16, 2002 production, the assembly process was improved to ensure adequate lubrication

In case of customer complaint on cars built prior to September 16, 2002, the seat frame can be lubricated to correct the problem.

PARTS INFORMATION





This repair will require a small amount of the grease shown.

PROCEDURE

The repair consists of spraying lubricant on all the pivot points of the cushion height adjustment arms.

Remove the seat and the cushion cover as described in Repair Manual section 51 13 400.





Spray lubricant between the flange on the hex ends of the rear pivot shaft and the outer surface of the cushion frame.





Spray lubricant between the rear height adjustment arms and the inner surface of the cushion frame





Spray lubricant between the front height adjustment arms and the pivot pins and the cushion frame.





Spray lubricant between the front height adjustment arms and the brackets on the seat tracks.





Spray lubricant between the front height adjustment arms and the rivet heads on the inner surface of the arms.





Spray lubricant between the rear height adjustment arms and the rivet head and between the arms and the cushion frame.

The height adjustment arm pivot is very hard to see, but it is above the forward end of the gas shock. Refer to following illustration for a view of the part that shows where the lubricant should be applied..





The lubricant should be sprayed between the arm and the gear segment as well as between the gear segment and the rivet head.
