Removing And Installing/Replacing Left Or Right ITS Head Airbag


CAUTION!
Note safety regulations for handling airbag modules and pyrotechnical seat belt tensioners.
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and result in injury


Remove headliner:
Version without sliding/tilting sunroof.
Version with sliding/tilting sunroof.

Installation summary, retaining elements, ITS head airbag R50







Disconnect plug connection for gas generator (1), ITS head airbag.
Remove self-locking nuts of generator (2).
Tightening Torque 6 Nm.
Remove screw of generator pipe bracket (3).
Tightening Torque 3.5 Nm.







Loosen Torx screws (1) securing tether strap to A and C posts.


NOTE:
Torx screws are retained by retaining disks.
Tightening Torques 11 Nm.


CAUTION!
Only use hexagon socket on screws when removing and installing.







Remove screws (1) securing clip shown in first graphic with number 5.
Tightening Torques 6 Nm
Open clip on bottom side (2).

Replacement only:
Remove clips and discard.







Open clips shown in first graphic with number 6 on bottom side (1).

Replacement only:
Remove clips and discard.







Remove screws (1) securing airbag retaining strap and trim on door pillar bracket.
Tightening Torque 6 Nm.
Remove airbag.

Install hint:
Remove all adhesives from screws securing tether strap and airbag retaining straps.
Apply Loctite 270 to thread of screws.


CAUTION!
Ensure airbag is not installed twisted.
THE SCREWS MUST PASS THROUGH THE AIRBAG RETAINING STRAPS.







Ensure screws (1) are located through clip (A) and door pillar bracket (6) to retain airbag retaining strap.


CAUTION!
Ensure aperture of clips are all closed and on bottom side.
