Rear Window Wiper Switch

Rear Wash/Wipe System (R50)

Function
Wiper
To switch on the rear window intermittent wiper, the switch must be turned to the right until it reaches its first position. If the front wipers are set to slow, rapid or intermittent, the ratio of the windshield to rear window wiper is 3:1. If the front wipers are switched off, the rear window wiper wipes every 10 seconds after the start of the previous cycle.

Programmed Wipe/Wash Function
The wipe/wash program is switched on either by turning the switch to the right to the 2nd position or to the left to the 1st position. The rear window is washed for the duration of this operation. If the switch remains in this position for longer than 1 second, the wiper is operated. After switching off, the wiper wipes another three times.

Reverse Gear Wipe Mode
If reverse gear is engaged with the front window wiper switched on, the rear window wiper runs for 3 wiper cycles. After these 3 cycles, the wiper switches back to intermittent mode. The reverse gear wipe mode is switched off when the front wipers are switched off or when reverse gear is no longer engaged.

Jamming Protection
The relay is deactivated when the wiper return contact was not closed for 18 seconds and the rear window wiper relay is active. The wiper motor cannot be restarted until the ignition key is moved back from position 1 to position 0 or the wiper lever is moved to another position by the driver.

Wiper Resetting
If the ignition is switched off while the rear window wiper is on, the wiper continues to run until it reaches its home position.

Deactivation Of The Rear Window Wiper With The Trunk Lid Open
When the trunk lid is open, the rear window wiper does not work. If the trunk lid is opened when the rear wiper is running, the last wiping cycle must be completed and the wiper returns to the home position until either the rear wiper is switched off and then on again or the trunk lid is closed. The wiper should then function again as normal. If the vehicle speed is more than 4 mph (6 km/h), the trunk lid contact signal is ignored.
