Cylinder Head Assembly: Testing and Inspection

11 12 729 Check Cylinder Head For Watertightness (

Special Tools Required:
- 11 8 431
- 11 8 432
- 11 8 433

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove cylinder head
- Remove camshaft
- Remove thermostat






Place special tool 11 8 431 on cylinder head lower face.
Secure special tools 11 8 431 with special tool 11 8 433

Note: Clean sealing surfaces






Close off coolant aperture with special tool 11 8 432






Connect compressed air to special tool 11 8 432.
Test pressure: 4.5 bar
Immerse cylinder head in a water bath.
Check cylinder head for escaping air (cracks).

Note: If necessary, add cleaning agent to water bath

Assemble engine
