Removing Or Installing Front Or Rear Wheel
Special Tools Required:
^ 36 1 300
Caution: Wheel was balanced electronically.
To avoid tensioning errors and imbalance, proceed as follows:
- Loosen wheel bolts.
- Wheel positioned with valve facing down.
- If several wheels are removed at the same time, mark installation location of wheels on tires with chalk.
- Mark out wheel to wheel hub.
- Mark out lockable wheel bolt to wheel.
- Release wheel bolts, remove wheel.
Caution: Contact faces between brake disc and disk wheel and between brake disk and wheel hub must be free of grease.
Remove any dirt, grease residue and rust from contact face (1) of brake disk.
Note: Degrease contact face with universal cleaner.
Note:
If grease residues are found in area of wheel stud bore, remove and clean brake disk.
Remove and install brake disk,
Front axle.
Rear axle.
Remove any dirt, grease residue and rust from contact face (1) of disk wheel.
Note: Degrease contact face with universal cleaner,
Check brake disk retaining bolt (1) for secure seating.
Caution:
Retaining bolt must under no circumstances protrude over contact face (2) between brake disc and disk wheel.
Front axle:
Brake disc to wheel hub
M10 x 13 27 Nm
Note: contact surfaces must be cleaned and grease free.
Rear axle:
Brake disc to wheel hub
Torx Screw
M10 x 13 27 Nm
Apply a thin coat of grease to wheel centering (1) in disk wheel.
Wheel studs with taper:
a. Wheel bolt - galvanized
b. Wheel bolt - black chrome plated
c. Wheel bolt - black chrome plated and lockable
d. Lockable wheel bolt with adapter, black chrome plated
Note: To release and tighten down lockable wheel bolt, use a matching adapter from special tool 36 1 300 (wheel bolt adapter set).
Clean wheel bolts and check threads for damage, replace, if necessary.
Replace rusty wheel bolts.
Caution: Do not apply oil to new wheel bolts.
In the case of used wheel bolts, apply an extremely thin coating of engine oil to the threads and tapers before reinstalling them.
Caution: Under no circumstances use pneumatic or power screwdrivers to install and tighten the wheel bolts.
Caution: Disk wheel must rest uniformly against brake disc.
Screw in wheel studs and, to contra disk wheel, tighten down by hand diagonally and evenly.
Tighten down wheel studs with torque wrench diagonally and evenly
Wheel Bolts 120 ± 10 Nm
