Engine Controls - Unstable Idle in High Temperatures

SUBJECT
Unstable Idle when Stopping, usually at Higher Ambient Temperatures

MODEL
R52, R53 with W11 and Automatic Transmission produced from 01/2005 to 08/2006

SITUATION
When driving in stop and go traffic, or when idling at a stop, the idle speed may fluctuate or become unstable. This may be more prominent at higher ambient temperatures and under a load, such as with the A/C on.

CAUSE
DME software calibration

CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis only, please reprogram the DME (MS5150) using Progman V26.0 or higher.

PROCEDURE

1. Connect an approved battery charger and DK diagnostic head.

2. Start new Progman session and select "MINI" series.

3. Select "Load Software", and then answer "NO" to the query as to whether any of the control modules have been replaced.

4. Select DME from the list of the control modules.

5. Select "Programming" and then "Manual Entry" from the submenu.

6. Enter the Programmed number 7581561 first and the basic number 7557395 second using the virtual keyboard in Progman.

7. The measures plan will be determined and displayed.

8. Select "Accept" and "Start" to start programming.

Important:
After the DME programming ends, continue to follow the Progman screen prompts to "Turn Off Ignition", wait 25 seconds, and then "Turn On" ignition to complete the DME coding and measures plan successfully. If necessary, determine and clear any fault codes using the GT1 diagnostic path.

If the appropriate labor operation is not contained in KSD, then a work time labor operation should be used.
