Quarter Window Glass: Adjustments




51 37 154 - Adjusting rear left or right side window





Special tools required:





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove outer window cavity cover strip 51 37 240 Removing and installing/replacing outer window cavity cover strip for door window, rear left or right

Important!
The vehicle must be standing on its wheels during this adjustment procedure (not on the lifting platform or jacked up).





Note:
Check/adjust presettings 51 37 000 Removing and Installing Complete Rear Left or Right Power Window Unit after removing or replacing power window unit or door window glass.
Prerequisite:
Front door must be correctly adjusted to fit Adjustments.
Convertible top correctly adjusted 54 31 000 Adjusting Convertible Top.





Ideal adjustment:
Close soft top.
Side window glass (1) must rest in seal (2) over entire width.
Door window glass (3) must rest in area (A) on side window seal (4) (wind noises, water ingress).





Vertical adjustment (A) (retraction depth):
- Close soft top.
- Open door window
- Attach special tool 51 3 080 to side window glass
- Close side window completely
- Measure retraction depth

Note:
3 items of special tool 51 3 080 are required for rapid adjustment of retraction depths.





Ideal adjustment:
Measure retraction depth in areas (1 and 2).
Dimension (c) = 6 ± 1.5 mm





Slacken shims (1) of side window (2) with special tool 51 3 240 (do not release fully).
Adjust height (A) of side window (2).
Tighten down shims (1) with special tool 51 3 240.
Tightening torque 51 37 2AZ Specifications.





Parallelism (B) (window tilt):
Ideal adjustment:
Side window top edge (1) must be parallel to contour of seal (2).
Close side window glass and mark along seal (2) at bottom and top with a water-soluble marker pen.

Note:
Clean side window.





Slacken shims (1) of side window (2) with special tool 51 3 240 (do not release fully).
Adjust side window (2) by turning (B).
Tighten down shims (1) with special tool 51 3 240.
Tightening torque 51 37 2AZ Specifications.





Longitudinal adjustment (C):
Ideal adjustment:
Distance (a) of door window glass (1) to strip (2) of side window:
Dimension (a) = 8.8 ± 1.5 mm





Slacken shims (1) of side window (2) with special tool 51 3 240 (do not release fully).
Adjust side window (2) by turning (C).
Tighten down shims (1) with special tool 51 3 240.
Tightening torque 51 37 2AZ Specifications.





Gap between side window and side panel:
Ideal adjustment:
Gaps (A and B) between side window (1) and side panel (2):
Measurement (A) = 10 mm
Measurement (B) = 16 mm

Important!
Side window glass must run into seal when Convertible top is closed.





Open loading aid in luggage compartment.
Remove plug (1).
Slacken screw (2) underneath (do not release fully).
Adjust side window by moving (A).
Tightening torque 51 37 3AZ Specifications.

Note:
If setting is not achieved: adjust power window unit 51 37 000 Removing and Installing Complete Rear Left or Right Power Window Unit if necessary





Pretension (D) of side window inclination:
Ideal adjustment:
Side window glass (1) must run into Convertible top seal when Convertible top is closed.
Door window glass (2) must rest firmly on side window seal (3) when Convertible top is open.
It must be possible to pull out the paper strip with moderate friction resistance.





Adjust pretension (D) by turning toothed knurled nut (1) on mounting (2) with special tool 51 2 220 51 2 220 Torx.
