SUBJECT
Soft Top Cover Separated at C-pillar
MODEL
R57 (Cooper and Cooper S Convertible)
SITUATION
The soft top cover may separate from the vehicle body in the area of the C-pillar (one or both sides), just above the chrome belt molding. As a result, when the soft top is fully closed, the fabric in this area may appear loose; create wind noise while driving; or introduce a water leak into the luggage compartment.
CAUSE
The plastic reinforcement, which is sewn into the soft top and secures it to the body of the vehicle, has fractured and separated.
CORRECTION
Replacement of the soft top cover is not necessary.
Reinforce the affected areas using the revised reinforcement kit.
PROCEDURE
Refer to the attached procedure, M540209_Attachment.pdf.
[NEW] Installation instructions are normally included in the kit. However, for convenience, they are attached to this Service Information, M540209_AG_Instructions.pdf
